Tracking Kent County’s Progress Toward Kindergarten Readiness

At First Steps Kent, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to enter kindergarten healthy, confident, and ready to succeed.

To help our community track and strengthen progress toward that goal, we’ve proposed three contributing indicators, each with measurable outcomes.

By prioritizing these measures across programs and partners, Kent County can ensure that all children have the foundation they need to thrive.

Contributing Indicators

Each contributing indicator reflects a critical factor in a child’s readiness for school and lifelong success. Together, they provide measurable insight into the health and well-being of families with young children.

  • Born Healthy

Healthy mothers are essential to healthy babies

  • Developmentally On-Track

Physical and environmental health shapes early development.

  • Early Learning

Early learning experiences set the stage for lifelong growth

RAPID EC

First Steps Kent partners with Stanford University to bring the RAPID-EC Survey to Kent County. The goal is to:

  • Gather essential and ongoing information and caregiver voices
  • Provide timely and relevant data to inform local policies and programs
  • Complement existing data collection
  • Build local capacity for rapid-cycle methods to enhance the impact of our partners’ work on behalf of children, families, and child care workforce.
