Bright Beginnings is a Blue-Ribbon Model Affiliate of the Parents as Teachers program which promotes the early development, learning, and health of young children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers. Bright Beginnings serves families in Kent County with children prenatal to kindergarten entry. They offer home visits and playgroups in Spanish.
A Hispanic family in Kentwood needed a speech therapist for their daughter but was having difficulty navigating and completing the electronic paperwork for the service which was offered through their public school. Teresa[JS1] from Bright Beginnings was happy to help the family with the application process. Because mom had minimal experience with computers, she was struggling with required emails and electronic uploads of the necessary paperwork.
At one of her home visits, Teresa brought her laptop and taught mom how to reply, upload, and send documents back to the school so her daughter could be scheduled for a speech evaluation. After this mini tech training, mom was able to complete the application process. Mom remarked feeling more confident with her computer skills!
