Equity Talks Training and Curriculum Guides
First Steps Kent partnered with Advancing Communities for Equity to develop a robust 2-hour training to accompany each full-length (10-15 minute) Equity Talks video. Equity Talks is a series of videos aimed at empowering parents and early childhood educators to confront their own biases and teach children how to embrace those who are different from them. The films are organized around four equity topics: identity formation, changing families, introducing anti-bias education, and differing abilities.
Below, find the downloadable curriculum guides and links to videos. If you are interested in hosting a Train the Trainer, there are curriculum guides and slide decks available for those as well. Please reach out to Megan Streng.
Training 1: How Identity is Formed
Real stories and research about how identity is formed in the early years of a child's life, and how we can use talking about differences to teach the importance of inclusion and equity.

Training 2: Our Changing Families
Family constructs look different than they used to. Use this video to help talk about different types of families and the way it effects your identity.

Training 3: Different Abilities and Fairness
How do we talk about different abilities and fairness with young children? Learn strategies for how to include those with different abilities in the classroom and beyond.

Training 4: Introducing Anti-Bias Education
Children notice differences very early. Let's start introducing anti-bias lessons and teachable moments as early as possible - to make real change.
