WHAT YOU CAN DO
First Steps is working to make sure every young child in Kent County is ready to succeed in school and in life, but we can’t do it alone. Our children need your time, your resources and your support. Please join us!
You can make a difference on many levels:
Individuals:
- Talk, sing, read and play with your child every day. Help your child safely explore the world around him or her.
- Invest your time in our community’s children. Mentor a child or volunteer in a school, child care center or church.
- Stay informed. Sign up to receive the First Steps newsletter.
Civic Groups, Businesses, Churches:
- Spread the word. Invite First Steps to speak to your members about the importance of early childhood development and the benefits to the community when we invest in our youngest children.
- Provide funding or in-kind gifts to support the work of First Steps and our many partners.
Community:
- Raise awareness and understanding that learning begins at birth and that the early years are critical for healthy brain development.
- Urge business and community leaders to understand that child development is economic development.
- Call on our elected officials to advance public policies that support the health, early learning and security of our community’s children.
