PARENT COALITION
Parents are their children’s first—and most important—teachers. They are an integral part of First Steps.
The Great Start Parent Coalition, part of Kent County’s Great Start Collaborative, is made up of committed parents from all over Kent County coming together to share information about early childhood, support the work of First Steps and ensure that all children are ready to succeed in school and in life.
The Coalition is always looking for new members. It is open to any parent of young children in Kent County. Please join us!
Our Mission:
The Parent Coalition will increase parents’ skills, knowledge, and participation in early childhood planning and decision making for the county.
Our Plan:
We will meet at least once monthly to provide parent training sessions, give feedback to the work of the Great Start Collaborative, and to collaborate on advocacy work.
Parent Coalition Members will:
- Speak publicly about the work of the Great Start Collaborative and the importance of early childhood investment
- Represent the needs and issues of their communities and build a knowledge of and appreciation toward the richness of cultures that we have in Kent County
- Assist one another in finding needed early childhood services
- Become effective board members and leaders in our community
- Participate in legislative advocacy
