First Steps is bringing together a diverse coalition of people from all over Kent County who are working toward a common goal:  every child will be ready to succeed in school and in life.

First Steps has two governance groups: the Early Childhood Children’s Commission and the Great Start Collaborative of Kent County. First Steps staff members are housed in the Heart of West Michigan United Way, a generous supporter and committed partner in the community’s work for young children and their families.

Dozens of community organizations and agencies in the fields of education, human services, healthcare, government, child care and culture are also partners of First Steps.
